The Art of Massage Therapy
The title Registered Massage Therapist ensures you that the therapist has successfully completed a rigorous massage therapy program, and has passed the 2 day intensive massage therapy board exams. The program covers extensive and indepth course material such as: neuroanatomy, musculoskeletal anatomy, pathology, physiology, massage techniques, lymphatic drainage, remedial exercise, hydrotherapy techniques and massage therapy treatments. The school also requires its students to complete 200 clinical hours of massage therapy. All of our Massage Therapists are registered under the above guidelines.
Benefits
Having a massage is like having a mini vacation. An hour of massage, enhanced by beautiful soothing music, aromatherapy oils and relaxation techniques to melt away aches and pains is the perfect answer to today's high level of stress. Massage calms the nervous system, increases blood flow (and therefore oxygen) to the tissues, including the brain. It helps your system to detoxify itself by stimulating the lymphatic system and breaks down scar tissue that may be obstructing blood flow and neurological activity and decreases pain. Massage Therapy increases your awareness of what is going on inside your body and educates you on where your aches and pains are coming from. A large focus of massage therapy is also on patient education: we like to teach you what you can do for yourself at home to keep you out of pain.

Draping and Safety Issues
Some people are concerned about how exposed their body will be during a massage, especially if it is their first time. We take special care to ensure you feel comfortable at all times during your treatment. We are thoroughly trained to drape you with the sheet in the most secure way, and only expose the section of the body we are working on. You may leave your underwear on during a session if you wish, and your chest & abdomen are covered at all times unless you request work on these areas for therapeutic reasons. For example, chest work may be indicated in the event of post operative mastectomy. Abdominal work may be requested in the case of constipation. Regular massage for these areas is also a form of preventative health care. The choice of where you are having work done is always yours, and always respected.
Insurance Coverage
Registered Massage Therapists are covered by many extended health care providers (check your policy) and Motor Vehicle Insurance in the case of an accident. Please call for details if you have any questions regarding your specific type of coverage. In some cases a Dr.'s note is required, or a Chiropractor's recommendation. |
