Ancient Hawaiian Temple Bodywork
This transformational bodywork draws its origins from ancient Hawaiian Kahunas, and has evolved over thousands of years to its present form. Some people believe Lomi to be the most advanced form of bodywork on the planet today.
On the Hawaiian Islands, Kahunas have a reputation for producing many "miracle" healings. Learning this work from Kahunas is similar to learning the magic of a rain dance from an Indian; their secrets of directing energy are now being shared. The word Kahuna is translated literally as "the keeper of the secret". Until recently these Kahunas kept their secret for thousands of years.
Lomi is something that must be experienced in order to describe, but we will try:
Lomi is magical and powerful, and at the same time nurturing and soft. A rite of passage. A prolonged meditative experience. A vision quest. Lomi is all encompassing and embracing. One comes away from a session feeling that their mind, body and soul have been nurtured and cared for. Lomi Ke A La Hoku is unlike any other bodywork.
In Hawaiian Bodywork, the practitioner uses the soft part of the forearm for most of the session. These continual and rhythmic massage strokes create an immense outpouring of energy, and help to lull you into a deep meditative state of bliss. The beautiful Hawaiian music playing in the background also helps you to achieve this state. In a Lomi session, the focus is on letting go, resting, quieting the mind of its chatter, and allowing yourself to receive. It has been said that Lomi also effects the subconscious mind in a positive way and similar to rebirthing, it helps to release negative belief patterns.
A Session
You will be given an opportunity before the massage begins, to state an intention for the session. This will give you a more spiritual focus and will help you to manifest what you want. You may announce your intention silently or say it out loud. This is completely optional.
We position you lying flat on your stomach, with your face in a comfortable face cradle, for the first half of the session. We then drape you with a folded sheet, over your genital area, and your back and legs are exposed. (if this is not comfortable for you, we can modify the draping for you) During a Lomi session, one massage stroke may flow from your heel, up your leg, over your back to your shoulder, and back down to your heel again.
Half way through the session, we will work your abdomen and chest area and back at the same time. If you are not comfortable with this area being worked, just let us know, and we will not massage these areas. The front of your legs are also oiled at this point. When this part of the session feels complete, you are asked to turn over onto your back. Your genitals are draped with a sheet throughout the entire session.
