Naturopathic Medicine & Acupuncture

Dr. Liang

Dr. Angela Liang, B.ScH., (Hons) N.D.

Clinical Nutrition

The relationship between nutrition and disease states has been scientifically documented. Subsequently, a broad array of problems relating to nutrition are addressed, including interference in its absorption and metabolism to the treatment of various conditions that have arisen from inadequate or excessive nutrients. Your nutritional status will be assessed and an individual nutritional program will be designed.

Homeopathic Medicine

Developed in the 18th century, homeopathy is derived from diluted solutions of either a plant, mineral or animal substance. Remedies are taken orally in very small doses. Homeopathic external remedies are usually applied in the form of cream or tinctures. A patient's total symptom picture is matched to the symptoms that the remedy produces when administered in large, undiluted amounts to a healthy person. In other words, a remedy is given based on the principal of "like cures like", similarly to a vaccination in traditional medicine, minus the needle.

Botanical (Herbal) Medicine

Historically, herbal medicine was the cornerstone of traditional medicine before the advent of synthetic pharmaceuticals. The active ingredients found within the plant kingdom still offer a powerful, effective and safe healing agent.

Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

The ancient Orient has long recognized the intricate relationship between mind, body and the environment in the development of disease. Acupuncture is a part of a 3000 year old art involving the insertion of needles at specific points in the body to enhance healing, reduce or alleviate pain and improve overall sense of well-being. As well over 60,000 recorded classical Oriental herbal prescriptions exist therapeutically.

Prevention and Lifestyle Counseling

Prevention is fundamental to the maintenance of good health and involves stress management, the modification or correction of lifestyle, diet and environmental factors that may affect health before it manifests into disease.

Insurance Coverage

Extended health care providers often cover the services of a Naturopathic Doctor. Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance may also cover our services if prescribed by an M.D. Some Insurance Companies do not require an M.D.'s note in order to claim Naturopathic services after an automobile accident. If you have any questions regarding coverage, or anything else, please feel free to call Dr. Liang.

Training And Licensing Of Naturopathic Drs.

Naturopaths registered in licensed Provinces and States must complete four years of professional training at a recognized naturopathic medical school. Pre-admission requirements include a minimum of three years of premedical studies at University. The naturopathic program consists of over 4,500 hours of training in medical sciences, diagnostics and therapeutics, with over 1,200 hours of actual clinical experience, leading to a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine. In addition, Naturopaths are trained to recognize conditions that may require prescription drugs or surgery and patients will be referred to the appropriate practitioner or hospital. Graduates must pass rigorous provincial exams and standardized North American board exams set by government appointed boards to be eligible to practise as a Naturopathic Dr.

Achieve Optimal Health... The Natural Way

The goal of naturopathic medicine is to treat the underlying disorder and to restore normal body function by augmenting the body's own healing abilities. Focusing on understanding the unique needs of each patient ensures that naturopathic care is highly individualized. Patients are actively involved in their health program and learn to make effective and educated choices in the prevention of future health concerns. Naturopathic doctors are primary health care providers who will work in co-operation with other practitioners to complement and enhance health care services. Ultimately, naturopaths provide patients with a comprehensive way to achieve optimal health, the natural way.
